Her hair danced in the breeze as a dusting of chilly winter morning settled on her shoulders. Her frigid voice sounded like the arctic gale that caressed her ankles, seeping into her pale, opalescent skin. Her eyes glanced over at him as he stood before his beloved ocean. She longed to graze the waves with her frosted fingertips to silence the murmuring tide.
He remained silent, aware that her frosty embrace always subdued his most verdant creations. She inhaled the silence as a torrent snow-punctured breeze enveloped her. Her slow footsteps matted down the sand with a thin crust of snow.
She lifted her eyes to meet his that sparkled like emeralds . They were always her undoing. Her once algid heart now began to thaw; a ominous spell wove its way through the most wintry of creatures.
unrequited love
frigid heart beats for him
amity for now

Today we were asked to write a haibun about winter.
I love this.
It reminds me of the Rosemary Clooney song from White Christmas
“Love, you didn’t do right by me
You planned a romance that just hadn’t a chance
And I’m through
My one love affair didn’t get anywhere from the start
To send me a Joe who had winter and snow in his heart
Wasn’t smart”
Excellent Haibun and Haiku

Oh I love that connection and never heard of her song. I grew up in Cincinnati and should have known. Thank you.

I thought this was an excellent haibun Anja, the sense of cold and attraction was very strong. Though not knowing a cold such you describe does make me shiver as I sit here in my warm summer.

Awww I would say brag about your warmth but we are having a very usual warm winter.

Yes I heard about that but that usually means the winter will hit more harshly….I’m sure you’ll keep your woolly mittens nearby….
